  • Know your teen. Teens experience many changes during adolescence and sometimes depression can occur.
  • It’s not just the blues. Depression is more than just occasional sadness. It can last for weeks or months.
  • Look for signs. These can include acting out, anger, anxiety, lack of energy, trouble concentrating, restlessness, withdrawal from friends and feeling worthless.
  • Offer support. Encourage your child to talk about what’s troubling her. Try to reduce extra stress in her life.
  • Get professional help. Depression can be a chemical imbalance and something that is out of your child’s control. Your child may benefi t from counseling or other treatment.
