Parenting Tips on Oct. 15 Fox 4 Morning News: Post-partum depression

Post-partum depression can sneak up on new mothers because its symptoms can be similar to those they experience during and after pregnancy.  In fact, about 15 percent of new mothers experience depression following the birth of a child.

If these symptoms last a few weeks:

  • Feelings of sadness or hopelessness
  • Crying
  • Lack of energy
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Not having any interest in the baby

Tips to help your mental wellness

  • Get as much sleep as possible, nap when the baby naps
  • Don't put too much pressure on yourself to get everything done
  • Talk to your family and friends about how you feel
  • Join a support group with other mothers
  • Spend some time out of the house
