What’s the best approach to potty training your child? Because of the way a child’s brain develops, there’s a certain age when children are best-suited for potty training. Find out the best time to potty train your child – both to make the training stick and to support your child’s self-esteem.

Thoughts About Potty Training

  • You’re trying to make an involuntary bodily function voluntary
  • You can’t force a child to be ready, but you can help shape it
  • Every child has a best age to start potty training
  • It’s an important milestone
  • It’s their accomplishment, not the parent or caregivers

Conditions for Successful Potty Training

  • Set aside ample time, do not rush this process
  • Have equipment: potty chair and training pants
  • Have supplies: books on potty training, videos, toys
  • Give lots of positive praise
  • Expect and accept accidents
