Your child
will hear about sex from external sources, such as television,
radio, the web and friends. And in your own home, your child will
pick up on your attitudes about sex and the human body. We’ll
give you some ideas for how to give your child age-appropriate
information – starting with your values and feelings --
to respond to your child’s curiosity about sex.
Why talk
to your child about sex?
-
It’s
your job — research says children want to hear it from
their parents
-
They
will learn it from the wrong sources
-
Information
from other sources will not be framed within any context of
your family’s values
-
Your
child probably will not shy away from talking about other topics
-
The
ability to talk with their parents about tough issues will help
your children better cope with life’s challenges
Tips for
talking with your child about sex
-
Figure
out your family values
-
Get
help/resources on the topic

Accept
that it is a messy topic
-
Find
out what is appropriate for your child’s age
