  • Know the facts. Keep up to date with the types of drugs and risks so you can give accurate information.
  • Be clear. Let your teen know it’s never OK to use drugs.
  • Get to know their friends. Encourage your teens to have friends over so you know who is in their social group.
  • Ask questions. Get the details on your child’s plans, set a time for checking in, and fi nd out if there will be adults on hand.
  • Help your teen say “no.” Temptation happens, so help them develop strategies.
  • Don’t ignore the signs. Note changes in your child’s appearance, mood, behavior or grades in school.
  • Stay connected. Show interest in your teen’s life and spend time together.
