The next time you have trouble getting your child to pick up a book, remember that reading to your child is one of the most important things you can do to help your child succeed in school.  Tune in to Fox 4 News Tuesday morning to learn how nurturing a love of reading is even more important that teaching your child to read. 
 
Why it's important to love reading

• The brain develops better by reading books vs. watching TV
• Kids absorb words and knowledge better by reading
• Strong reading is a success factor in school success  

How you can influence a love of reading

• Read aloud to your child, even after he is able to read on his own
• Have books available, get a library card
• Model reading for enjoyment
• Visit a library or bookstore a few times monthly
• Let your kids select books
• Limit TV time
